Resolving smart dimmer flickering

Why dimmable LEDs flicker, and the settings and bulbs that fix it.

Flicker almost always comes from the match between the dimmer and the bulbs, not from the network.

  1. Use dimmable bulbs. Non-dimmable LEDs flicker or buzz on any dimmer. Check the packaging.
  2. Raise the minimum level. In the app open the dimmer → Settings and increase the minimum brightness until the lowest setting is steady. LEDs often cannot dim below 10–20 %.
  3. Mind the load. A single very low-wattage LED may be below what the dimmer can regulate; adding a bulb to the circuit, or choosing a slightly higher-wattage bulb, stabilises it.
  4. Mixed bulbs. Different brands on one circuit dim at different rates; use one model per circuit.
  5. Neutral wire. Dimmers installed without a neutral rely on the bulbs to leak a little current; if your box has a neutral, connecting it makes dimming far more stable. Have an electrician check if unsure.
  6. Firmware. Make sure the hub and the device are up to date (device → Settings → Update).

If the flicker started suddenly on a circuit that used to be fine, a bulb is usually failing: swap bulbs one at a time.
